Somebody get this exchange counter built, because it might be the best immigration policy nobody has proposed yet.

Here is what makes this cartoon sting. Cubans do not need a lecture on socialism. They have lived it for more than sixty years. They know what happens when the state owns the economy, the press, and eventually you. Ration books, blackouts, one party, no exit.

That is why the traffic in the Florida Straits only flows one direction. Nobody builds a raft out of inner tubes and prayers to get INTO Havana. Cubans have risked their lives for decades to reach American shores, because they know the difference between a country built on liberty and a country built on promises.

Meanwhile, back home, we have a generation voting for the Democratic Socialists of America and insisting it could never happen here. They changed the label. They dressed it up. They put "Democratic" in front of it like a coat of fresh paint on a condemned building.

But at the end of the day, socialism is socialism. And the DSA's own stated objectives do not fit inside the Constitution. You cannot have a limited federal republic, separation of powers, and protected individual rights while pursuing state control of the economy. One of those has to go, and the DSA is not shy about which one.

The Founders built a system designed to restrain exactly this kind of concentrated power. The DSA platform treats that system as the obstacle.

So yes, it is too bad the exchange program is not real. Every American who thinks socialism just has not been tried correctly could trade places with a Cuban family who would treasure freedom the way only someone who lost it can.

One side gets the liberty they dreamed about. The other side gets the education they voted for.
