Texas Senator John Cornyn just sent a formal letter asking the FBI to help locate and arrest the Democrat lawmakers who fled to Illinois to block a redistricting vote.
Their stated goal? “To prevent the legislature from properly meeting.”
Let that sink in. Elected officials—paid with your tax dollars—literally ran away to stop democracy from functioning. Not because they were in danger. Not because there was some emergency. But because they didn’t like the way the vote was going to go.
Flying away on a luxury private jet is not civil disobedience.
This is a deliberate and coordinated effort to paralyze a functioning government. It’s illegal, it’s dishonest, and it’s un-American.
Governor Greg Abbott has already ordered their arrests. Attorney General Ken Paxton is preparing to vacate their seats if they don’t return by the end of this week. Now the FBI is being brought in, because Texas law enforcement can’t touch them once they cross state lines. And guess what? That’s exactly why they ran to Illinois, New York, and California—to hide behind blue-state governors who are happy to harbor them.
Let’s not pretend this is about principle. It’s about power.
Texas is trying to pass a new congressional map—something every state does after the census. But this map would likely shift five House seats away from Democrats. So rather than lose fair and square, they’re sabotaging the process. Holding the state hostage. Breaking their oath. All while fundraising off it and playing the victim.
These lawmakers are skipping work, lying about the process, and throwing a tantrum to block a vote they know they’ll lose. And they want to be treated like heroes?
Spare me.
If Republicans did this, the media would scream “insurrection.” MSNBC would have 24/7 panic coverage. The FBI wouldn’t be asked to act—they’d already be at the front doors. But because these fugitives have the right party label, they get a free pass from the media and high-fives from the DNC.
Ask yourself: What kind of precedent does this set?
If lawmakers can just flee and shut down government every time they lose a debate, we don’t have a Republic anymore. We have chaos.
And let’s be clear: this isn’t a Texas issue. This is a nationwide battle for how our laws are made and whether elected Democrats will respect them. Because if they get away with this in Texas, they’ll try it in every other red state too.
They’re not defenders of democracy.
They’re fugitives from accountability.
It’s time to bring them home—and hold every single one of them responsible for this shameful, un-American stunt. Arrests. Vacated seats. Consequences.
No more hiding behind hotel breakfasts and Illinois lobbyists.
